Electronic Image Making
Digital Photography
As the first part of this project you should plan out your ideas, search out the locations from
which you wish to construct your narrative sequence and take preliminary photographs, from
this rough storyboards should follow, prior to the taking of the final images.
Task Two
Computer Workshop
Using Photoshop for any Image processing and iMovie for the sequencing and adding of
soundtrack material, construct your narrative sequence, which must be of at least two minutes
duration.
It will be necessary to keep a Technical Notebook on how you approached the project.
This notebook should take the form of a Blog. This should contain any information on
techniques and processes which you have utilized in completing the project, plus
research, idea development work and a 500 word Design Report. Be sure to post your
Blog entries to the Category: Electronic Image Making.

The final completed sequence should be burned onto CD, titled and presented in a Jewel CD

The idea is to do two of the seven deadly sins, lust and jealousy in the form of the Argentinean Tango. The dance with one, two or three men and one woman can be quite an erotic dance with it history based in Argentina, Buenos Aires and tango are synonymous terms, and tango is an integral part of the large city. You can find the tango all over Buenos Aires: in it’s mythical cafes, at the milongas, and by walking around the city’s authentic neighbourhoods.
The history of the Argentine Tango, from tango’s humble beginnings to its latest developments, is part of the grand history of Buenos Aires.

The Passion of the Underworld
Although it has come to epitomize the glamour and elegance of high society, with women in sleek glittering evening gowns and men in tuxedos, the Argentine Tango originated in society’s underbelly, the brothels. As immigrants from Europe, Africa, and ports unknown streamed into the outskirts of Buenos Aires during the 1880′s, many came toward the houses of ill repute. The tango dance originated as an “acting out” of the relationship between the prostitute and her pimp. In fact, the titles of the first tangos referred to characters in the world of prostitution and were considered very obscene by society.
This form of the tango spread throughout the underworld for a number of years. During that time the Bandon eon, an accordion-like instrument, was introduced into the music. The Bandon eon came from Germany where it was used to play religious music in churches that couldn’t afford an organ. In Argentina, Eduardo Arolas is credited as being the main early pioneer of the instrument and having forever intertwined the fates of the bandoneon and the tango art form. Eduardo said that the bandoneon was made to play the tango, with its deep melancholy feeling that the immigrants enjoyed as a sentimental tingle in their hard working lives.
In Paris.
The Argentine Tango was “written” by Ricardo Guiraldes. Ricardo was a well-to-do poet and writer and an upper-class playboy in Argentina. He enjoyed emulating the social lives of his more bohemian friends, including going to see tango performances. In 1910, Ricardo went on a tour of Europe. He wrote a poem called “Tango” to honour the dance, and gave a tango performance at a fashionable Parisian salon. The crowd was deeply attracted to the dance and Tango was the first of the many Latin dance crazes that were to sweep Europe. With the popularity of the Argentine Tango in Europe, Argentine high society took a new look at the dance and welcomed it into their own lives.
The Tango Now
After the long stretch of the decadence of tango in the 60′s and 70′s, young people have started to accept the tango around them as being part of there lives. The youth realize the tango in their own ways, with their own unique character, mixing Piazzolla with the primitive bands and with flute and guitar, deconstructing and restructuring it. Maybe that is why the tango is now again a phenomenon; the resurrection of tango may make the art form more powerful than ever. The city of Buenos Aires remains the world centre of the movement.
THE DANCE
Part of my inspiration for the idea of a dance came from a similar dance as shown on You Tube, (shown below) My dance was going to be of the similar ilk but would use two girls and four boys vying for the attention of each other in all the mayhem and supposed confusion of the dance.
I did a screen test of some of the students as now shown:-
Unfortunately the best laid plans can go astray in my case my dancers decided not to turn up at the arranged times due to there personal commitment to there own theatre work, they all turned up at a time that suited them but forgot to tell any body outside there own circle.
So as a very late attempt to do something else the day before submission I assembled some Lego characters, and characterising the seven deadly sins with Lego characters, covering: -
Pride is excessive belief in one’s own abilities, which interferes with the individual’s recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
Envy is the desire for others’ traits, status, abilities, or situation.
Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
In the sequences that is shown on the DVD shows a very simple turn of events that unfold before you, It can be seen that the very smart young man in the uniform has an over whelming Lust from the very good-looking girl he is standing along side off. There is Anger from the pirate who shoots the girls suitor because of the Envy of the soldier who is desired by the girl. Greed as a man crossing in the background moves from left to right with a wheelbarrow full of goodies. Sloth and Gluttony from the bystander on the right drinking from a large beer bug watching all that unfolds before him. Finally Pride in the Motor cyclist policeman who finally ending up with the lady with his big shiny bike.
A graphic explanation on the conceptual thinking of the final DVD is achieved by the basic concept that is built on the basis of content and not on the technical nitty gritty of the application of the exercise. Given more time all techy errors and inconsistencies would and could be smoothed out. On guidance I considered it to be of minimum importance compared to the conceptual application. The thought behind the project was how to achieve the desired requirements needed with a minimum of tools available. Having several Lego models available made the subject construction a relatively simple mater to choose. To make the idea work could be a problem in that Lego are not the most pliable of models to work with. The first half was quite simple, all the characters fully built and then photographed then a single item was removed photographed then another piece removed then so on until they had all gone. Neither all the photos were put together in sequence on a one second freeze with half a second soft mix between each picture giving a total show of slightly less then a two second each. The pictures were edited to show in reverse order. Unfortunately there was no tripod available so all the camera shots were hand held so showing a slight movement between each shot. The models were reset then the same pose was repeated.
